Frequently asked questions –
What is Hypnosis ?
Hypnosis is a profound physical and mental relaxation during which you become inwardly focussed, aware of your immediate reality but with comfortable detachment from it. It is a wonderful calm and relaxed state. Brain wave patterns taken of people who are in hypnosis show alert wakefulness.
Will I get stuck in a trance ?
You can open your eyes whenever you want to. It is your choice and you will be aware of that freedom at all times.
Will I do something or say something I do not want to ?
You will not do or say anything that you do not want to. I have provided a much more detailed explanation of this under ‘ what is Hypnosis ’ on my home page however suffice to say this is not a stage show. This is a therapeutic and clinical process with your confidentiality and respect assured at all times.
Can I open my eyes ?
You can open your eyes whenever you choose in fact you do not have to close your eyes until you are happy to do so. If you do not want to, then that is fine too.
Do I have to have Hypnosis ?
I offer NLP and CBT as therapeutic tools as well as Hypnosis. All are effective and have proven track records. If you do not want to have hypnosis that is fine and the choice is yours. If you then change your mind that is also fine. It is vital that we both feel comfortable and relaxed working together to enable real change to occur.
What will it feel like ?
Hypnosis is different for different people. We are all unique individuals. Sometimes it feels like a daydream or trance, sometimes a profound level of deep relaxation can be experienced. Change can be effective at any level. There is no right and wrong sensation.
Can I drive afterwards ?
After any therapy session it is important that a client is well enough to leave the office whether that involves driving or simply walking home. Your well being is of paramount importance and as such if we have any concerns we will deal with them appropriately. My commitment to you is that you leave the office in a more positive frame of mind, refreshed and alert.
Can I bring a friend ?
Yes. If you would like to bring a friend for support that is fine. For confidentiality purposes they will have to sign consent forms. Alternatively if they simply want to sit close by that is fine too. My office has a lovely tea room downstairs where they are welcome to wait and relax should this be of assistance to you.
What if I do not ‘go under ? ’
If you are capable of day dreaming then you are capable of experiencing hypnosis. It is very easy like being in a trance.
Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to call. The therapeutic process relies on good rapport between client and therapist as a fundamental basis for positive lasting and permanent change and as such it is important to ask any questions at all.
